The short version
- Your photo is never stored. It is read in memory, sent to an AI model to work out your face shape, and then discarded. We do not save it to a database, a disk, a file store or our logs.
- We save the result: your face shape, a short description of your proportions, and the ranked list of styles.
- Cut is for adults. You must be 18 or older to use it.
- We do not sell your data, run ads, or use analytics or advertising cookies.
Who we are
This service is run by Cut (“we”, “us”). We decide how your data is used, which makes us the controller. Contact us at thecut1@proton.me.
What we collect
- Account details: your name and email address, and a password stored only as a one-way hash. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from Google.
- Age confirmation: the date and time you confirmed you are 18 or older.
- Sign-in sessions: a session token, plus the IP address and browser details that were used, so we can keep you signed in and spot misuse.
- Your results: the face shape, a short note about your proportions, the ranked styles with reasons, and when each was made.
- Usage: how many analyses you have used this month, so we can apply the free and Premium limits.
- Billing: if you subscribe, your Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, the subscription status and the date it renews. Stripe takes your card details. We never see or store your full card number.
- Emails: we send verification and password-reset emails when email is switched on.
What happens to your photo
When you upload a photo, our server reads it into memory, checks that it is a JPEG, PNG or WebP file of 4 MB or less, and sends it to an AI model to describe your face shape and suggest styles. When the request ends, the photo is gone from our systems. We do not write it to disk, save it in our database or put it in our logs.
The model is reached through Vercel’s AI Gateway and, at the time of writing, is a Google Gemini model. The provider processes the photo to produce the result, and its own terms and privacy policy apply to that processing. We do not use your photo to identify you or to build a face template, and we do not ask the model to.
Only upload a photo of yourself, showing one clear adult face. The model is told not to rate attractiveness or comment on skin, weight, age or ethnicity.
Why we use your data
- To provide Cut: your account, your results and your usage limits. This is necessary to run the service you signed up for.
- To take payment and manage your subscription.
- To keep the service secure and prevent abuse, which is in our legitimate interest.
- To meet legal obligations such as tax and accounting records.
Who else handles your data
These providers process data for us. We only use them to run Cut.
- Vercel: hosting, and the AI Gateway that routes your photo to the model.
- Google: the AI model that analyses your photo, and Google sign-in if you use it.
- Neon: our database.
- Stripe: payments and the billing portal.
- Resend: verification and password-reset emails.
Some of these providers are outside your country, so your data may be transferred internationally. We rely on the safeguards those providers offer for such transfers.
Cookies
We use a sign-in cookie so the site knows who you are. It is strictly necessary and we do not use analytics or advertising cookies.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and results until you delete your account. You can do that yourself from your dashboard: it cancels any subscription straight away and permanently deletes your account, sign-in sessions and results. You can also ask us to do it by email. Stripe keeps its own payment records for as long as the law requires.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, or to restrict or object to how we use it. Email thecut1@proton.me and we will reply within one month. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data you can complain to your local data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office).
Children
Cut is only for people aged 18 or over. We ask you to confirm your age when you sign up. If we learn that someone under 18 has an account, we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this page in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top. See also our terms.
